Thomas Engineering Group provided Phase II engineering services for the Kane County Division of Transportation for the intersection improvement of Fabyan Parkway and Kirk Road, both of which are high-volume Strategic Regional Arterials. This intersection is located in southeast Kane County. The Cities of Batavia and Geneva border this project on the south and north, respectively. This project was driven by mobility and safety issues which were exacerbated by event traffic for the nearby Kane County Cougars stadium. The scope included widening and reconstruction which necessitated significant land acquisition. It also included channelization with the addition of dual left turn lanes and through / right turn lanes or right turn lanes on all four legs. Traffic signal modernization and a curb and gutter closed drainage system were additional highlights. The existing shared use path was designed to be reconstructed where it existed and extended to the north and east. Some unique features of the design included tree surveys, connections to existing drain tile systems, relocation of every utility, and wetland mitigation.
