Project Manager (Design)

Our team is looking for a Project Manager to join our team. Our operations are primarily centered in the greater Chicagoland area and surrounding suburbs. This is a full-time exempt position with an excellent benefits package that includes medical insurance (health, dental, and vision), paid time off, and 401(k).


This position is responsible for leading multidisciplinary design projects from initial concept through final construction documents and close-out. The Design Project Manager will oversee project schedules, budgets, quality control, and client coordination while mentoring design staff and collaborating with internal departments including surveying, transportation, municipal, and construction services.


The ideal candidate is a proactive leader who can manage multiple projects simultaneously, communicate effectively with clients and agencies, and guide project teams to successful delivery.


Responsibilities

  • Manage civil engineering design projects from planning through construction.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, municipalities, and regulatory agencies.

  • Develop and manage project schedules, scopes, budgets, and staffing plans.

  • Oversee preparation of plans, specifications, estimates, reports, and supporting documentation.

  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations including IDOT, ISTHA, County, and Municipal standards as applicable.

  • Coordinate internal design disciplines including transportation, stormwater management, utilities, permitting, and surveying.

  • Review and approve design calculations, modeling, and technical deliverables.

  • Lead project meetings, prepare agendas, and document key decisions.

  • Monitor project financial performance and proactively address scope changes or budget concerns.

  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and design staff.

  • Assist with business development efforts including proposal preparation and client relationship management.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by TEG Executive team.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited school.

  • 8+ years of experience in the AEC industry.

  • Illinois Professional Engineer (PE) license.

  • Demonstrated experience managing municipal, transportation, site development, or infrastructure projects.

  • Experience coordinating with IDOT, Illinois Tollway, Counties, or Municipal clients.

  • Strong knowledge of roadway design, stormwater management, utility coordination, and permitting processes.

  • Experience with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.

  • Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • A valid U.S. driver’s license.

  • U.S. Citizen or permanent resident (without sponsorship).


Salary Range

  • $120,000 - $160,000
