TEG is a Chicagoland-based civil and transportation engineering firm doing the kind of work that actually changes how people move through Illinois. Our team is looking for a Traffic Engineer who wants to own their work, not just execute tasks. This is a full-time exempt position with an excellent benefits package that includes medical insurance (health, dental, and vision), paid time off, and 401(k).
Responsibilities
You will carry real technical responsibility across traffic engineering and transportation planning, with a supporting role in roadway design when project workloads call for it. Day to day, that means:
Running and overseeing capacity analysis, simulation modeling, and corridor studies
Designing traffic signals, intersection layouts, signing, pavement markings, and MOT plans
Developing and reviewing Traffic Impact Studies, Intersection Design Studies, and safety assessments
Evaluating crash data and roadway conditions and translating findings into practical safety improvements
Preparing PS&E packages for municipal and state projects
Serving as the technical point of contact for clients, subconsultants, and agency reviewers
Keeping designs compliant with IDOT standards, local agency criteria, and the MUTCD
Reviewing contractor submittals, RFIs, and agency comments
Participating in progress meetings, agency coordination, and public involvement
Supporting proposals on the technical scoping and drafting side
Conducting field reviews to observe conditions firsthand
What We're Looking For
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited program
2 to 10 years of traffic engineering or transportation planning experience (we'll consider strong candidates outside that range)
Illinois PE license preferred; PTOE and/or RSP certifications are a meaningful plus
Proficiency in Synchro/SimTraffic and HCS; working knowledge of HCM, HSM, and ITE guidelines
Bentley OpenRoads Designer or MicroStation experience, especially applied to both traffic layout and geometric design
Familiarity with IDOT, Illinois Tollway, County, or Municipal project delivery and review processes
ArcGIS experience supporting crash data analysis and safety studies is a plus
Strong technical writing and analytical skills
Valid U.S. driver's license; U.S. Citizen or permanent resident (sponsorship not available)
Salary Range
$85,000 - $130,000
