Thomas Engineering Group provided construction engineering services for this $2.1 million bridge widening project. The project widens the existing bridge on Washington Street over the west branch of the DuPage River to accommodate pedestrians and bicyclists. The work included bridge demolition and removal of precast concrete deck beams, cofferdam installation, extension of abutments and pier, installation of precast concrete deck beams, installation of drilled soldier pile retaining walls at each corner of the bridge, construction of a 5” reinforced concrete wearing surface, construction of an 8” reinforced concrete sidewalk, parapet and bridge railing installation, installation of a conduit support system attached to deck beams, sidewalk construction, roadway reconstruction, patching and resurfacing, curb and gutter removal and replacement, guardrail installation, roadway lighting, landscaping, and pavement marking. Responsibilities included contract administration, shop drawing review, inspection, documentation, public relations, coordination with IDOT, Will County Soil & Water Conservation District, Army Corps of Engineers, utility companies and other City departments, and managing staff and budget.
